Farmer, agronomist and host of In The Paddock.
I’m Martin Murray, based in northern New South Wales. My interest in agriculture began on my parents’ rice and sheep farm near Carrathool in the Riverina.
I went on to work on farms around Moree and a cattle station in the Northern Territory, before studying at the University of New England and working as an agronomist. Farming and agronomy continue to shape how I approach the issues covered by In The Paddock.
Why I started In The Paddock
I wanted to learn from producers, researchers and industry specialists—and make those conversations useful to other people working in agriculture. The project now explores the wider economic, technological and policy forces that influence decisions on the ground.
I’m interested in ideas that stand up to scrutiny, honest accounts of what went wrong and the practical details that are often missing from the headline.
Beyond the microphone
My interests include flying, metalwork, camping and military history. Curiosity about how things work is a common thread through both my work and the stories I pursue.
